Laylat al-Qadr 2027
Night of Power · 27th night of Ramadan · Shab-e-Qadr
Friday evening, 5 March 2027 (the night before 6 March)
The night the Qur'an was revealed, better than a thousand months – in the last ten nights of Ramadan, widely observed on the 27th.
What is Laylat al-Qadr?
Laylat al-Qadr is the night in which the revelation of the Qur'an began. Allah says: "The Night of Decree is better than a thousand months. The angels and the Spirit descend therein by permission of their Lord for every matter. Peace it is until the emergence of dawn" (Al-Qadr 97:3–5).
The Prophet ﷺ told the Muslims to seek it in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan (Bukhari). In many countries the 27th night of Ramadan is observed in particular.
How it is observed
- Night prayer and tarawih, reciting and completing the Qur'an.
- The supplication the Prophet ﷺ taught Aisha: "Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni" – "O Allah, You are Pardoning and love to pardon, so pardon me" (Tirmidhi).
- Charity and good deeds; whoever spends this night in prayer out of faith and hoping for reward will have his past sins forgiven (Bukhari and Muslim).
- I'tikaf in the mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan.
