Night before the first Friday of Rajab · Regaib Kandili
Thursday evening, 10 December 2026 (the night before 11 December)
The night before the first Friday of Rajab, opening the three blessed months of Rajab, Sha'ban and Ramadan.
What is Laylat al-Raghaib?
Laylat al-Raghaib ("the night of wishes") is the night before the first Friday of Rajab. In the Ottoman tradition – in Turkey, Bosnia and the Balkans – it opens the three blessed months of Rajab, Sha'ban and Ramadan, a season of spiritual preparation for the fast.
Rajab is one of the four sacred months. A well-known supplication of this month is: "Allahumma barik lana fi Rajab wa Sha'ban wa ballighna Ramadan" – "O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha'ban and let us reach Ramadan" (Ahmad).
How it is observed
- Spending the night in worship: prayer, Qur'an, remembrance and supplication.
- Qur'an recitation and talks in mosques.
- Planning for Ramadan: making up missed prayers and fasts, reconciling with people.
