Eid al-Adha 2027
10 Dhul Hijjah · Bakrid · Kurban Bayram · Feast of Sacrifice
Sunday, 16 May 2027 – lasting 4 days
The festival of sacrifice on the tenth of Dhul Hijjah, during the Hajj, celebrated for four days.
What is Eid al-Adha?
Eid al-Adha begins on the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah, the day after Arafah, and lasts four days. It recalls Ibrahim (Abraham) and his readiness to sacrifice his son Ismail, whom Allah ransomed with a great sacrifice (As-Saffat 37:102–107).
The sacrifice (udhiyah, qurbani) is made after the Eid prayer, on the first day or until sunset on the third day. The meat is shared in three parts: for the family, for relatives and neighbours, and for the poor.
How it is observed
- The Eid prayer in congregation in the morning after sunrise.
- The sacrifice after the Eid prayer (until the third day of Eid).
- The takbir after every obligatory prayer until Asr on the fourth day.
- Greeting with "Eid Mubarak", visiting family and sharing the meat.
- Whoever intends to sacrifice should not cut his hair or nails from 1 Dhul Hijjah until the sacrifice.
