Isra and Mi'raj 2027
27 Rajab · Lailat al-Mi'raj · Shab-e-Miraj
Monday evening, 4 January 2027 (the night before 5 January)
The night of the Prophet's journey to Jerusalem and ascension to the heavens, before 27 Rajab.
What is Isra and Mi'raj?
Isra and Mi'raj is the night in which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was taken from al-Masjid al-Haram in Mecca to al-Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem (Isra) and from there raised through the heavens (Mi'raj). The Isra is mentioned at the beginning of Surah Al-Isra and the Mi'raj in Surah An-Najm.
On this night the five daily prayers were prescribed. Scholars differ on the exact date; the most widespread is 27 Rajab, so the night is observed on the eve of that day.
How it is observed
- Night prayer, Qur'an recitation (especially Surah Al-Isra), remembrance and supplication.
- Reflecting on the prayer as the gift of this night.
- Talks in mosques about the Prophet's journey.
