Frequently asked questions
What is a hadith?
A hadith is a report of what the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, did or approved. Together with the Qur'an, the hadiths are the main source of Islamic teaching; they explain the Qur'an and show how it is lived.
What do sahih and hasan mean?
Sahih (authentic) means that the chain of narrators is unbroken, every narrator is trustworthy and precise, and the report has no hidden defect. Hasan (good) meets the same conditions with a slightly lesser precision of a narrator; it is also accepted as evidence.
Where do these hadiths come from?
From HadeethEnc.com, the Encyclopedia of Translated Prophetic Hadiths, which selects authentic and good hadiths and adds a translation, explanation and lessons, reviewed by scholars and translators. The texts are shown here unchanged.
