Al-Asr, "Time", is one of the shortest surahs, with three verses. Allah ﷻ swears by time that mankind is in loss — except those who believe, do good deeds, and urge one another to the truth and to patience. Imam ash-Shafi'i said that if people reflected on this surah alone, it would be enough for them.
According to a narration in at-Tabarani, when two Companions of the Prophet ﷺ met, they would not part until one had recited Surah Al-Asr to the other and they had greeted each other with salam. Its three verses are a complete program of life, which is why scholars called it one of the most comprehensive surahs.
