About the two Holy Mosques

Masjid al-Haram in Makkah surrounds the Kaaba, the qibla towards which Muslims all over the world turn in prayer. Allah ﷻ calls it the first House established for mankind (3:96), and prayer in it is worth a hundred thousand prayers elsewhere (Ibn Majah 1406).

Masjid an-Nabawi in Madinah was built by the Prophet ﷺ himself after the Hijrah, and his grave is within it. He said that a prayer in his mosque is better than a thousand prayers elsewhere, except Masjid al-Haram (Sahih al-Bukhari 1190, Sahih Muslim 1394).

Why is a stream sometimes unavailable?

The channels restart their live broadcast from time to time and YouTube then gives it a new address. This page finds the current broadcast by itself every few minutes; if a stream does not start, open it with “Watch on YouTube” or try again a little later.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Makkah live stream official?

Yes. The streams shown here are the official 24/7 broadcasts of Qur'an TV (Makkah) and Sunnah TV (Madinah) of the Saudi Broadcasting Authority, played with YouTube's own player.

When is the adhan in Makkah?

The times next to the stream are calculated for Makkah and Madinah according to the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia, with a live countdown to the next prayer. The iqamah in the Haram follows a few minutes after the adhan.

What time is it in Makkah now?

Makkah and Madinah use Arabia Standard Time (UTC+3) all year round, with no summer time. The current local time is shown next to each stream.

Can I watch Taraweeh and Laylat al-Qadr live?

Yes. In Ramadan both channels broadcast the Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers from the two Holy Mosques, including the nights of the last ten days and the khatm of the Qur'an.
